What is Interventional Radiology?

  • Interventional radiology (IR) is based on image guidance for the purpose of treating patients
  • Interventional procedures often replace surgical procedures
  • IR involve no large incisions, less risk, less pain with a shorter and better recovery period
  • Interventional radiologists (IRs) use their expertise in reading X-rays, ultrasound and other medical images to guide small instruments such as catheters (tubes that measure just a few millimeters in diameter) through the blood vessels or other pathways to treat many diseases percutaneously (through the skin)
  • These procedures are typically much less invasive and much cheaper than traditional surgery
  • Advantages to patients include less risk, less pain and shorter recovery times
  • General naesthesia is usually avoided
  • Most procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis or require only a short In Hospital stay
  • The entire team is highly qualified and dedicated to all patients coming out from all the Caribbean
  • Procedures include Emergency and Regular Procedures
